The Beaufort Inn located in the historic district of Beaufort, SC is the perfect marriage of a B&B and a boutique hotel. It has the character of a B&B, but with the privacy and amenities of a boutique hotel. Plus, it’s centrally located near quaint shops, restaurants and the waterfront, but it’s quiet and peaceful.
I stayed there for two nights while on a press trip, and it captivated me with its charm. One of my favorite moments during my trip was when I curled up on a chair on the big front porch, and just enjoyed the early morning serenity.
I stayed in the Garden Cottage, separated from the main inn by a small courtyard, which was perfect. Admittedly, I’m not a huge B&B fan, but the cottage afforded me all the privacy I needed, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The courtyard is a wonderful place to sit and chat, and it’s nicely lit in the evenings, which made me feel really secure when returning to my room each night.
I had a beautifully appointed luxury king bedroom with a lovely little writing desk, and the enormous bathroom had a soaking tub, pedestal sinks and a walk-in rainwater shower. I couldn’t have been happier with my accommodations.
And yes, there was free WiFi!
The only time it ever felt like a B&B to me was at breakfast, which was served buffet-style in the dining room with omelettes cooked to order (and the grits were incredible, by the way). However, as of this writing, The Beaufort Inn no longer serves breakfast, but provides vouchers for guests to eat at their choice of three nearby restaurants instead.
That’s even more like a boutique hotel, so I like the change!
If you like the communal nature of a traditional B&B, ask for a historic room in the main inn, but if you’re a privacy junkie like me, the cottages are the way to go. But, definitely book a stay at The Beaufort Inn. It’s wonderful!

I don’t think we’ve ever stayed in a real B&B before. This one looks pretty authentic!
I’ve never been to a B&B. The Beaufort Inn looks like a wonderful comfy place to day. I would love to try it one day.
Ahh! That is fantastic! You know when I saw the pictures of the exterior and the claw foot tub, it made me imagine food that is far less fancy than what they serve. This place is the best of all worlds!
There is nothing like a good B&B. Their attention to detail and comfort level is so far above a hotel. You series on Beaufort has me and my husband seriously considering it for our next trip.

I love staying at B and B’s. Part of the adventure is that each one has it’s own history. I love to meet the owners, they all seem to really enjoy meeting everyone that comes to stay.
Everything about this I love. Inns are so cute, and charming. I wish we had more here in Nebraska.
You had me at the claw foot tub! Totally reminds me of going to my Great Aunts place when I was a little girl. What I would give to have a soak in a tub like that !
