If you’re a book lover—or just enjoy exploring charming small towns—Boonsboro, Maryland, should be on your list. This picturesque spot became famous thanks to bestselling author Nora Roberts, who revitalized the town square by renovating the historic Inn Boonsboro and opening a cozy bookstore and a unique gift shop in the heart of town.
While I didn’t stay overnight (I’m saving that for a future trip!), visiting Inn Boonsboro and exploring the surrounding area was a real treat.

Inn Boonsboro (Behind the Scenes)
Walking into Inn Boonsboro, you immediately sense the quiet luxury. The exposed brick walls and vintage photos give the place so much character—it’s the perfect blend of history and comfort.
The inn has eight beautifully designed guest rooms, seven of which are inspired by an iconic literary couple with a happy ending—think Darcy and Elizabeth, or Westley and Buttercup. (Note: The penthouse suite is the exception, but still just as gorgeous.)
A standout feature? The stairs—more specifically, the stunning railings. The craftsmanship is exquisite, and if you look closely, there’s a hidden surprise tucked into the design!
Look down the hallway behind the stairs, and you might recognize this artwork as the cover of the first book in Nora Roberts’ Inn Boonsboro trilogy —it’s proudly displayed on the inn’s wall. If you haven’t read the series yet, it’s delightful.
The breakfast area is exactly what you’d want in the morning: warm, inviting, and the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious meal.
And if you’re in need of a midday pick-me-up, you have to try one of the inn’s signature scones. It was so scrumptious—almost cookie-like, and that’s definitely a good thing in my book!
There are cozy sitting areas sprinkled throughout the inn, perfect for curling up with a book or just taking a break. Everything feels warm and welcoming, like you’re staying at a friend’s house—if that friend happened to have impeccable taste.
Step outside and enjoy the balconies and courtyard—both are perfect for unwinding. The balconies offer charming views of Boonsboro, while the courtyard provides a peaceful, relaxing spot to escape.
Each space at the inn is picture-perfect, and it’s easy to see why staying here is such a bucket-list experience. Just a heads-up: if you plan to stay at Inn Boonsboro, book well in advance—it’s incredibly popular and sells out quickly (which is why I couldn’t snag a room this time around!).
Turn the Page Bookstore
Just across the street from the inn is Turn the Page Bookstore—a book lover’s dream! Cozy and welcoming, it’s packed with a wide variety of books, from bestsellers to hidden gems, and a fabulous children’s section.
Of course, you’ll also find signed copies of Nora Roberts’ novels here—it’s the only place to get them, whether in person or online.
A Bit About Nora Roberts
Did you know Nora Roberts has written over 270 books? She currently publishes four each year!
She started out as a romance author but has since expanded into thrillers and psychological suspense. Her standalone thrillers are packed with dark, gripping mysteries, while her trilogies often blend fantasy and paranormal elements—perfect if you’re into a little magic with your storytelling.
And here’s a fun twist: she writes the In Death series under the pen name J.D. Robb. This futuristic mystery series, set in New York City, is a hit with both men and women, mixing crime-solving with a touch of romance. It’s a must-read if you’re into smart, fast-paced stories!
From Nora’s first novel, Irish Thoroughbred, to her latest release, The Mirror , you’ll find them all here. The front room features books from various authors, while the back rooms are entirely dedicated to Nora Roberts and her J.D. Robb titles—a true treasure trove for fans!
For a unique gift, the bookstore also carries Nora Roberts-themed jewelry, handmade to match the themes of her books and the Inn Boonsboro cookbook! Whether you’re a longtime fan or just getting started, Turn the Page Bookstore is a treasure trove for all things Nora Roberts and beyond!
Gifts Inn Boonsboro
Next door to the bookstore is Gifts Inn Boonsboro straight from the pages of The Next Always, the first in Nora’s Inn Boonsboro trilogy. The store is packed with beautiful handmade treasures from local artisans—pottery, jewelry, paintings, you name it.
It’s also where you’ll find all the custom tea blends, handcrafted soaps, and body care products selected for the Inn.
It’s the kind of shop you wander into “just to look” and leave with the perfect gifts (or souvenirs for yourself—no judgment here.)
