I think I might be turning into a zipline junkie. That’s a thing, right?
I’ve gone ziplining in Florida and in Western North Carolina, but my recent zipline experience at Shallotte River Swamp Park in Ocean Isle Beach is hands down my favorite so far, and I can’t wait to go back again!
The guided zipline tour takes about 2 – 2 ½ hours and includes 10 zipline stations, three bridges and over 1.25 miles of cable.
The rangers were fun, encouraging and so knowledgeable about the sport and about the beautiful natural setting in which the park was built. As you move from tower to tower, they point out animals, birds, trees and insects they spot along the way, and they clearly have a deep respect for them all.
You go soaring over the swamp and through an amazing canopy of trees, including age-old cypresses. The views are incredible!
What makes Shallotte River Swamp Park so special is not just that the “zips” are longer and faster than other courses I’ve been on (although they are), but that it’s an eco-park, not just an adventure park. There’s no question adventure-seekers will get everything they crave here and more, but the intent of the park is to showcase the natural beauty of the outdoors, and to encourage us to love, care for and appreciate it.

The eco park opened in June 2015 in Ocean Isle Beach and includes swamp boat tours, a zipline canopy course (ages 10 and up), a tree-top aerial challenge course (ages 4 and up), a self-guided educational nature trail and a guided swamp buggy tour through the park.
I totally recommend the zipline course, and I’ll be back to try the rest of what the park has to offer. I’m totally intrigued with the aerial challenge course!

FUN! I say that I have always wanted to go ziplining, but I had my chance in New Hampshire last summer and totally chickened out. LOL.

It looks fun. I have never been ziplining but keep saying I am going to. They installed some ziplines over part of our zoo property but I still haven’t made it yet. Maybe this spring when it warms up.

I LOVE to zip line. It’s such a wonderful experience once you get past your stomach being in your throat. Everything looks so much different from up there.
That is so impressive! I would have to let my husband enjoy that incredible zipline, though, because of my horrible fear of heights. Just looking down can give me vertigo!

Ziplining looks like so much fun. North Carolina has been on our destination list for quite some time now. Going to have to save to make it happen even sooner now.

I went ziplining a couple years ago in Ohio. I am afraid of heights so I was terrified the whole time but I am glad I experienced it. the views were gorgeous!

This looks like SO much fun! One of my bucket list items is to go zip lining. I’m hoping I can do it sooner than later because all the pictures I see of it always make it look so amazing!
We have one like this close to us in Bolton (come to think of it, I can’t remember it’s name now /cry). But this zipline looks way more fun.

I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go zip lining! We have a newer one here in Rockford but sadly it’s a little bit more expensive than I can afford. I can’t wait to go one day though 🙂 This particular park looks AMAZING!

I’ve done real zip-lining when I was in the military but here in CO there are some fun places that do it and I plan on taking the kids to do it one day. It’s a lot of fun.

My heart just went into my throat just looking at your pictures! I tried to do an aerial course last summer and after 5 minutes my younger daughter chickened out so we got off the course. I think it was my happiest moment ever because I was scared to death but didn’t want them to lose the experience. I’ve got to try it again some day.
Okay this is one thing that I don’t think I will ever try…I am too chicken. This is up there with Bungee Jumping for me…LOL

They just opened a zip line park by me last summer. It’s a bit spendy but it looks like fun and something I have always wanted to do.

I know it looks so much scarier than it is, because I’ve done it! It’s so much fun. I recommend zipling to anyone anytime. I’d visit Shallotte just to do this.
