The 1898 Waverly Inn is the perfect Hendersonville bed and breakfast located two blocks from the historic downtown’s restaurants, shops, and breweries.
Hendersonville’s oldest continuously operating inn is on the National Historic Register and retains its 19th-century Queen Anne ambiance alongside modern comforts and conveniences.
The beautiful home is on a lovingly landscaped piece of property and the innkeepers and staff are full of southern hospitality.
The large covered wraparound porch was my favorite place to hang out. Give me a rocking chair and a book, and I’m happy. (There’s also a covered porch on the second floor.)
The inn also has several inviting spaces for guests to hang out. Feel free to borrow one of the books, DVDs, and board games, or sit and work on the community jigsaw puzzle.
Need some extra pampering? The inn can arrange spa services in advance. Couples massage, anyone?
Guest Rooms
There are 15 guest rooms at the Waverly Inn located on the three floors of the inn—stairs required—and I’m not sure you could go wrong with any of them.
We stayed in the Fire Pink room (rooms are named after native flowers and plants) on the third floor. The room was carpeted and had a very comfortable king bed. The window A/C unit kept the space comfortably cool (even in August), but there was also a ceiling fan.
The Fire Pink room is located at the back of the house, away from the busy street, so it was quiet and peaceful for our entire stay.
The bathroom toilet/sink configuration was a little tight to navigate, but the newly updated walk-in shower made up for it.
Social Hour
The Waverly Inn hosts a daily social hour from 5-6 pm. Guests can enjoy a meat and cheese plate and two beverages (wine, hard cider, beer, lemonade, sweet tea, and soda).
Made-to-Order Breakfast
Morning is a treat at the Waverly Inn and staggered meal times ensure your breakfast is piping hot when you arrive in the dining room.
Guests receive a paper menu under their door the evening prior, which they fill out and drop at the check-in desk before retiring. Along with traditional breakfast fare, there’s always a daily special.
I loved the daily granola, yogurt, and fresh berry parfait, but the chocolate chip French toast bake was my favorite “special” of the weekend.
Live Music on the Porch (Seasonal)
On select Thursdays from April through September, bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of live Americana music on the porch of the Waverly Inn. The concert is free but if you’re hungry, bring a few bucks for food truck fare and cocktails.
